Famous American singer of country music and a talented songwriter, Lee Greenwood was born on October 27, 1942 in South Gate, California. He didn't get his parent's love as they were separated in his childhood only. Lee was brought up by his grandparents on their poultry farm in Sacramento. He started playing saxophone at the age of seven. Lee joined a dance ensemble at the age of nine. He associated with the Chester Smith Band in 1969 with which he appeared on television for the first time. Following his debut performance, shortly he also worked with famous country musician Del Reeves.
In 1962, he led the foundation of his first band, "Apollo". Later the band changed its name to "Lee Greenwood Affair". This band's music was pop influenced. The band appeared in various casinos in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, they recorded some of their songs and records on Paramount label. Sadly, the band didn't last for long and it broke up in 1970s. After the break up, Greenwood went back to Las Vegas. There, at day time, he used to work as a black jack dealer and a singer at night.

Lee was going on in his musical journey dealing with his struggle. At this time, once he was spotted by Larry McFaden, the band-leader and bassist of Mel Tillis in Reno in 1979. He recorded some demo tapes with this group. After some time Lee was signed by the Nashville-based MCA label in 1981 where McFaden was appointed as his manager.
Once he got the way of his destination, success followed him luckily. His first single, "It Turns Me Inside Out", climbed the country charts and attained a significant position in the top 20s. His successful singles further made his way to success. Two of them included "Ring On Her Finger" and "Time On Her Hand" led him in the top 10.
Lee is loved and remembered always for his famous patriotic song "God Bless the USA" recorded in 1980's. This song was recorded and written by him only. This song was highly acclaimed in USA. Its fame was renewed in 1991 on the launch of Operation : "Desert Storm". Again followed by terrific attacks on September 11, 2001, the song regained its popularity and topped the country charts . After that time, Lee has performed this favorite song of all, in many concerts and event of the attacks. He highly favors United States Republican Party. In 2004 elections, he successfully campaigned for George W. Bush.
His latest albums include "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in 2000, "Stronger Than Time" in 2003, "Gospel" in 2003. His recent releases include "I.O.U." in 2006 and "The Patriot" in 2006.
