Hailing from New Orleans, two-time Grammy nominated R&B Soul singer Ledisi has been making wonderful music professionally since 1995. Ledisi released her first studio album in 2000. She released two albums under independent labels before signing with the major label Verve Forecast in 2007. It was under this label that she released Lost & Found which earned her a Grammy nomination. Ledisi has consistently been touring throughout the United States and selling out large venues all over the country.
Ledisi's sound stems from traditional Soul and R&B roots with her own modern take on the sound. Her first band Anibade consisted of herself as well as producer, keyboardist and songwriter Sundra Manning, guitarist Cedrickke Dennis, bassist Nelson Braxton, saxophonist Wayne Braxton, and drummer Tommy Bradford. The group gained a lot of local acclaim and garnered a cult following throughout the mid to late 90's. 2000 saw the release of Soulsinger: The Revival and spurned four singles including "Soulsinger", "Take Time", "Get Outta My Kitchen", and "Good Lovin'". In 2002 Ledisi released her album Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue which won her Outstanding Jazz Album at the California Music Awards. Ledisi proceeded to take a five year hiatus before releasing Lost & Found in 2007.
Her single Alright debuted at #45 in the Billboard Hot R&B chart. Ledisi followed up Lost & Found with her Christmas album It's Christmas and had a television special that aired on the Gospel Channel called Ledisi Christmas. In August, 2009 Ledisi released Turn Me Loose to some very great acclaim. Ledisi is currently touring the United States.
Ledisi Anibade Young is a jazz-influenced singer originally from New Orleans. Her name means "to bring forth" in Yoruba and Nigerian. She grew up with music as her mother was a jazz vocalist. When she was eight years old Ledisi performed with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. After moving to Oakland, California she performed in local productions. She played the part of Dorothy in the local production of The Whiz in which she gained a nomination of the Shellie Award in 1990.
Following that she performed with a local cabaret group Beach Blanket Babylon. In the 1995 Ledisi set out to blaze her trail in the professional music scene and hasn't looked back since. Her music has been nominated for multiple music awards and time and again she has proved – both with her music and her ticket sales that she is a bona fide jazz singer.
