Artist Biography - The Coasters

The Coasters were one of the breakout R&B and Rock n Roll groups of the late 1950s. They were early sensations with songs like “Searchin” and “Young Blood” the group became heavily imitated for the doo wop movement of the 1960s. The Coasters tickets have been selling since those early days in Los Angeles.

Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Bobby Nunn, Leon Hughes, and Adolph Jacobs founded the group in 1955 and began an unstable period that saw several members leave the group and others join to form the Coasters that fans remember. In the end it would be four men, founding members Carl Gardner and Billy Guy and East Coast additions Will Jones and Cornelius Gunter, which would sell Coasters tickets and albums.

The group became a hit for its style of humorous storytelling. Songs like “Down in Mexico” and “Yakety Yak” throng them onto the national stage. The group continued to tour after the early success, but failed to produce hits. Like classic cars, the national audiences would begin to appreciate the group and their work again after a few decades.
