Kt Tunstall
Background-
A Scottish singer-songwriter, from Scotland, Kate "KT" Victoria Tunstall, says "I grew up knowing I could have had a million different lives. It makes your life mysterious and your imagination go wild". She was born in Edinburgh and KT" is an abbreviation for the initials of her full name, Kate Tunstall. She used to spent her time, apart from studies, performing in the Church Street in Burlington, Vermont and at a commune in rural Vermont. She would also listen to her older brother playing the hair metal. She says "I would sit outside his room and record his music through his door."
She attended the High School of Dundee, then she finished her studies at Madras College in St Andrews and studied at Kent School, Connecticut; and at Royal Holloway. Throughout her twenties, she played with innumerable independent bands such as Elia Drew and Tomoko, where in she used to write songs, "but I was just coming out with this schmaltzy love nonsense. It was a complete vomit of puppy love. But I thought I was rocking."
In the year 2004, she released her debut album "Eye to the Telescope". Her music music varies from pop to folk. She also played in a band called Red Light Stylus who were one of the best bands in the Edinburgh and St Andrews.
She also did a solo performance of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree". She was appreciated for her performance, as she prepared it withing twenty-four hours and also caught the attention of many viewers and she got the chance to perform in more acts such as The Cure, Embrace, and The Futureheads.

Artist Biography - Kt Tunstall
|
"Eye to the Telescope" was re released and it appeared at number three at the UK charts. According to Tunstall, "My songs examine and explore little specific emotions or situations or stories," she explains. "They're kitchen table songs, like a conversation between me and one other person. It's almost like an alien has been sent to get emotional samples from human beings and put it all together on a record." The album was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in the year 2005. Her favorite album was David Bowie's 'Hunky Dory', she admits, "Its sound really touched my love for songwriting and spacey stuff," she says. "I was really into sci-fi books as a kid. My dad is a physicist and he used to take my brothers and I into his lab when we were little. We played games with liquid nitrogen and Van de Graaff generators. He had the keys to the observatory at St Andrew's University and he'd get us up in the middle of the night to show us Halley's Comet. That's partly why the album is called 'Eye To The Telescope.'"
In the year 2006, she released a acoustic album, "Acoustic Extravaganza". As Tunstall says, "Steve was producer and engineer - he did everything. He even invited me to stay with him and his family so we could work longer. We recorded the album in this gnarly little studio in the woods in Wiltshire. It was this disabled guy's house. The vocal booth was the wheelchair ramp between his bedroom and the control room. So you could either sing going downhill or uphill. It was perfect, so raw. He's got this little shack in the garden where all the local bands rehearse. It was like Deliverance."
She is known for her live performances and tours extensively. She was also nominated for three Brit Awards, in the category of Best British Live Act, British Breakthrough Act, and British Female Solo Artist, in the year 2006. Tunstall was also nominated for At the ceremony and she also won the award for Best British Female Solo Artist.
