Koko Taylor was born on 28th September, 1935 in a farm near Memphis. Her actual name is Cora Walton. In 1954 she went to Chicago from Memphis with her husband who was truck driver. In late 1950s Koko started singing in blues clubs of Chicago. Her fate changed for best when in 1962 she came in the eye of Willie Dixon which led to Koko giving bigger performances and also earned her first contract. Chess Records in 1965 signed her and immediately after her song ' Wang Dang Doodle ' was a monster hit seeing a sale of more than million copies.
In the 1960s and 1970s Koko Taylor started touring which led to more and more fans being added to her fan base. In 1975 Alligator Records signed her. Many albums of Koko have got nomination for Grammy Award. She has also been able to influence many other artists like Shemekia Copeland, Susan Tedeschi, Janis Joplin, Shannon Curfman and Bonnie Raitt.

In 1969 she released a self titled album 'Koko Taylor' which came with twelve tracks Insane Asylum, Love You Like a Woman, I'm a Little Mixed Up, I Don't Care Who Knows, Yes, It's Good for You, Wang Dang Doodle, I Love a Lover Like You , Whatever I Am, You Made Me , Don't Mess With the Messer, Twenty-Nine Ways, and Fire.
