Kings Of Leon
Kings of Leon are a Southern rock band equally influence by their religious upbringing and their affinity for Jack Daniels. The group grew up together as three Followill brothers (Caleb, Jared, and Nathan) and a first cousin (Matthew). The brothers traveled the South with their father, a United Pentecostal Church preacher who traveled from site to site. The family seemed to be born to tour, and the children continued the tradition, though as a group selling Kings of Leon tickets instead of the word of the Lord.
Unable to settle down in any one place, they were educated by their mother and by life itself on the road. Originally, Kings of Leon was the vision of the two eldest brothers, Nathan and Caleb. They went to Nashville in 1998 with the intent of becoming country stars, instead Angelo Petraglia, a producer and songwriter turned them into a rock band. The two brothers and the producer went to New York and played for several music labels, and ended up signing with RCA. Soon, in 2000, the group would pick up younger brother Jared and cousin Matthew and would start selling Kings of Leon tickets.
The groups name came out of homage to their father and grandfather, both named Leon. Taking their experience from the road, traveling the South and preaching the word of God, the group struck a chord with audiences thanks to their stripped down sound and their intimate lyrics that tells personal stories instead of taking on the world at large. This songwriting and this sound has taken the group whose origins may be listed as Columbia, Tennessee but really come from all over the Southland, from a regional favorite to a world recognized group.
