Born in New Jersey in 1959, Kevin Spacey is one of those few actors who have tasted success both on stage and on films. As an actor he can fit into any role, hero, comedian, or villain.

Spacey grew up in California, where he began his career as a stage actor in the 1980s. Then he began to get supporting roles in film and television. His first screen breaks came in 1986 released "Heartburn". Then came, "Working Girl" in 1989 where he played a Wall Street broker. Before long, he did more films and came to be regarded as a respected actor. The early 1990s witnessed him playing many supporting roles. The film "Glengarry Glen Ross" released in 1992 was a short of turning point for this actor. In this heavily cast film, Spacey held own to his own. "Consenting Adults" was another such multi-cast film where he had strong screen presence.

In 1995, Spacey played a serial killer in "Se7en". This was a thriller where Spacey murders people who he thinks are guilty of the seven deadly sins. He did another negative role as the enigmatic criminal Verbal Kint in "The Usual Suspects". This film was successful enough to launch him to A-list status in Hollywood. This role also won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Then in 1996, he essayed the role of an egomaniacal district attorney in "A Time to Kill". In 1997 "L.A. Confidential" was released where he played the role of a cop. This film did very well at Box Office and also won acclaims for Spacey. In 1997, he founded Trigger Street Productions. In 2003 he served as a producer and also did a supporting role in the film "United States of Leland".

In 1999 was released "American Beauty". This film was huge success and more important, Spacey won Best Actor Oscar Award for his role as a depressed suburban father. That year more accolades followed as he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A multi talented artiste, Spacey provided his vocals on the soundtrack of "Beyond the Sea". He also directed and played in many plays in London. In 2005 he appeared on the London stage in the title role of Shakespeare's "Richard II," which was directed by Trevor Nunn. Recognizing his contribution, London South Bank University in November 2005 awarded him an Honorary Doctorate. Currently he is closely associated with the Old Vic Theater in London and has announced his intention to stay there for another nine years.

Spacey despite his huge success in Hollywood also was seen occasionally on television. Most recently he hosted the season finale of Saturday Night Live this year on May 20 besides participating in six sketches, which include the roles of a falconer, detective, and Neil Young.

Spacey's was most recently seen in as the villainous Lex Luthor in "Superman Returns". He also appeared in Edison Force co-starring Morgan Freeman and Justin Timberlake.
