Keith Anderson was born on January 12, 1968 near the Ozark Mountains in Miami, Okla. Since he was exposed to music from childhood onwards, he grew up listening to the Southern music of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet and a host of hair metal bands. It was a copy of Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger that drew Anderson's attention towards country music. Apart from music, he was greatly interested in sports too. He was a very talented and intelligent boy and so excelled both in academics and sports and side by side he nourished his love for music and performance. After completing his high school he started his college years at Oklahoma State University. In the University he received the Top Ten Freshman Award and completed his graduation at the top of his class in Construction Engineering. Meanwhile he also came second in the Mr.Oklahoma bodybuilding competition and was also selected for the Oklahmo All-State football team.

Meanwhile, he started writing country songs and dreamt of becoming a country music star, but it was not his songs that attracted attention but his baseball-playing skills. He joined the OSU baseball team and then occupied a slot on the draft list of the Kansas City Royals, when they approached him. Unfortunately, he had to stop playing abruptly after a shoulder injury and had to drop his professional baseball career. He then took up physical therapy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, but he found himself drawn to music and so decided to pay his full attention to music. He started honing his writing and performing skills.
His physical rehabilitation program made up his physical appearance and he became a part-time catalog model. After saving some money, he moved on to Dallas where he started performing at the local nightclubs stages and side by side he used to various other jobs during the day. After that he got a chance to write ad jingles for the local radio and this became his first playing gig in music. After spending some time in the radio station, he moved to Nashville in the year 1990s. At Nashville he got an opportunity to play in the city's best known music clubs.

In 2002, when there was a competition for 10th Jim Beam Country Band Search held at the Wildhorse Saloon, Anderson won it. In the same year he collaborated with Kent Blazy, George Ducas, Amanda Williams and Kim Williams to write songs for Garth Brooks and George Jones for their album 'Beer Run'. The album went on to become a hit and the duo went on to receive Grammy, CMA and ACM nominations. Writing songs for Ducas, was a big signature for Anderson as every publishing house in Nashville became aware of him. In 2004, Gretchen Wilson included Anderson's composition 'The Bed' on her debut album. Anderson felt that he had the ability as well as the experience to become an artist on his own and so started approaching labels. Although it took some time but finally, Arista Nashville approached him. Anderson's released his debut alum under the album, Three Chord Country and American Rock Roll in 2005.

Anderson has gained so much popularity that he has become the heartthrob of the country, not only for his songs but also for his good looks, especially among the women folk.
