The actual name of Keali'i Reichel is Carleton Lewis Keali'iinaniaimokuokalani Reichel. He was born in in 1961 on island of Maui and grew up in Lahaina. He went to Lahainaluna High School. When at 24 Reichel conducted a theft for which he was given the punishment of studying the Hawaiian culture. But this had a very very positive affect on him and he devoted all his life in knowing and promoting the culture of his native state. A language school of Hawaii was founded called Punana Leo O Maui for which Reichel contributed as the founding directors. At the Maui Community College and University of Hawai'i he has taught the language and culture of Hawaii.
Keali'i Reichel learned vocals and dance of Hawaii from Hawaiian scholar Edith Kanaka'ole and Pualani Kanaka'ole Kanahele. A Hawaiin dance troop was later founded founded by him and is presently called Halau Ke'alaokamaile In 1944 Reichel released an album titled 'Kawaipunahele ' which was a collection of the contemporary and traditional music of Hawaii. The album was very successful and sold almost 500, 000 records. The album also won Reichel five Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. He released more albums in coming years. In 1995 'Lei Hali'a' was released. The album has some English songs and some contemporary and traditional Hawaiian music with original compositions and chants.

Apart from releasing albums Reichel was seen in two Contemporary Hawaiian collections which were Pride of Punahele released in 1998 and in 2003 Pride of Punahele 2 was released. In 2004 an ward winning album by him came in the market known as 'Ke'alaokamaile'. The album at 2004 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards won four top awards including Hawaiian album of the year, male vocalist of the year, Hawaiian song of the year, and album of the year.
The style of Keali'i Reichel is marked by vocals over bass, guitar and a ukulele ensemble. Sometimes there is also traditional and orchestral instruments of Hawaii. The vocals comprises of Hawaiian language chanting and he sings in both English and Hawaiian.
