As any self-respecting fan knows, Katy Perry is the singer's stage name. She was born Katheryn Hudson in Santa Barbara on October 25, 1984. Katy first tried to make it in the music business as Katy Hudson way back in 2001. Then she her musical taste was quite different. She performed as a Gospel rock musician and her album fell on deaf ears. Eventually her label, The Island Def Jam Music Group, dropped her. She worked her way back into the music business by first changing her name, adopting her mother's maiden name to avoid being confused with Hollywood actress Kate Hudson. She also adopted a sound that her evangelist mother did not enjoy, pop music that lamented about lost love and crazy nights. Columbia Records signed her in 2004 and Katy Perry found encouragement from the music magazine Blender, who labeled her the "Next Big Thing" in 2004. Perry became the next big thing in fours years later when she released One of the Boys. Her first album under her new stage name, Katy Perry, the album initially received national attention because of the song "I Kissed a Girl". The song became a hit and the album soon followed in the single's footsteps. Other memorable tracks include "Hot n Cold" and "Ur So Gay". Katy took to the road in 2009 on her first headlining tour. The Hello Katy Tour took her around the world, selling Katy Perry concert tickets in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Now she is married to actor and comedian Russell Brand and Katy Perry is an international pop star. Heck, she has started to get into acting, or at least voice work, providing the voice for Smurfette for the Smurfs. Not bad at all for a kid from Santa Barbara. OnlineSeats has Katy Perry tickets for her California Dreams tour for great prices on the secondary ticket market.
