Kathleen Edwards was born on 11th July, 1978 in Ontario. She was a daughter of diplomats as a result Kathleen spent some time of youth in Switzerland and Korea. She started her studies in classical violin when she was just five years old and studied it for next twelve years. Kathleen Edwards used to hear the music of Bob Dylan and Neil Young who is also his brother. After completing her high school Kathleen instead of going to college chose to perform at local clubs in order to pay the bills. At this time the music of Ani DiFranco influenced her. While she got the determination for writing music from Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown.

In 1999 six track EP called ' Building 55 ' was recorded by Kathleen Edwards and she pressed for 500 copies. At the end of 2000 Kathleen embarked on a tour to all over Canada and doing gigs. In 2003 came the debut album of Kathleen which was titled ' Failer '. It was a ten track album for which seven tracks were written by her. The ten songs were Mercury, One More Song the Radio Won't Like, Maria, Sweet Lil' Duck, Six O'Clock News, The Lone Wolf, National Steel, Hockey Skates, Westby and 12 Bellevue. The album was a very acclaimed one winning the hearts of people and critics alike. Even the press were swayed by her debut album.

In 2003 only a live album of Kathleen Edwards was released titled 'Live from Bowery Ballroom'. The album has songs which were recorded at her live performances. Some of the songs are from her performance in June, 2003 at Bowery Ballroom in New York. There were live performances of two songs from her debut album which have been released in the album. A DVD with the album was also released which has videos of songs One More Song The Radio Won't Like and Six O'Clock News. The other three tracks on this live album are Money Talks, National Steel and Hockey Skates.

Another critically acclaimed album of Kathleen Edwards has been her 2005 album titled 'Back to Me'. The album released in 1st March, in United States of America was released on Zoe RecordsĀ and in Canada on MapleMusic. 'Back to Me' has eleven songs like Old Time Sake, Good Things, In State, Pink Emerson Radio, What Are You Waiting for?, Somewhere Else, Back to Me, Summerlong, Copied Keys, Independent Thief and Away which once again proved how talented is Kathleen.
She was nominated for two Juno Awards in 2006. Back to Me was nominated as Adult Alternative Album of the Year and she was nominated for Songwriter of the Year.
