Some twenty-three years ago,Gilbert Rozon, thought that he would bring together the people who liked to laugh with the people who would make them laugh. In the year 1983, he got the chance to unleash his idea in the form of a festival in the Montreal cultural scene. He made it a point that the festival was all about humor, comedy and entertainment and the most important, the festival was Just For Laughs. The festival continued for four days with 16 french comedians doing 35 shows in four venues across Montreal, performing before a crowd of about 5000 people. Presently, over 700 artists from around the world takes part in the festival and performs infront of 2 million spectators, in more than 20 venues and along St. Denis Street. The festival is also broadcast in television all over the world to millions of viewers. The philisophy behind this festival is to spread humor among its audience and to provoke laughter in a very daring manner that really goes beyond the limits of the imagination. All the gags are dialogue-free and are about ridiculous situations that you come across in everyday life.
