Though Joshua Redman is son of another noted player of saxophone Dewey Redman but it was his mother who in the start gave lot of encouragement to her talented son. His mother was Renee Shedroff who for music classes in Indonesian and Indian got her son admitted in Center for World Music where he a got a formal training in music. In 1993 came a sophomore album tilted 'Wish'. For the albums Redman worked with bassist Charlie Haden, drummer Billy Higgins, and guitarist Pat Metheny. The result was superb ten track albums with songs like Tears in Heaven, The Deserving Many, Moose the Mooche , Make Sure You're Sure, We Had a Sister, Soul Dance, Blues for Pat , Wish, Whittlin', and Turnaround. A group called Elastic was formed with Redman. drummer Brian Blade and keyboardist Sam Yahel.
In 1994 Joshua Redman released 'MoodSwing' and the next two years were marked by the release of two more albums entitled ' Joshua Redman Captured live ' and ' Spirit of the Moment Live at Village Vanguard ' in 1994 and 1995 respectively.

'Freedom Of Groove' was released in 1996 with ten tracks Can't Dance, When the Sun Comes Down, Home Fries, Pantomime, Invocation, Cat Battles, Hide and Seek, Dare I Ask?, Streams of Consciousness and One Shining Soul.

'Freedom Of Groove' was followed by another albums titled 'Timeless Tales (For Changing Times)' . The album consisted of seventeen songs I Had a King, Love for Sale, How Deep Is the Ocean?, Eleanor Rigby, I Had a King, How Deep Is the Ocean?, How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?, Eleanor Rigby, HIt Might as Well Be Spring, I Had a King, Yesterdays, Summertime, The Times They Are A-Changin', and Visions.
His other great albums have been ' Passage of Time ', ' Momentum ', ' Beyond ', and ' Elastic '.
