Joe Bonamassa was born in the year 1977 in the upstate of New York. As it so happened, his father Len owned a guitar store in Utica and so young Joe was quite fascinated with guitar and at the tender age of four, he started playing a short scale Chiquita guitar. With constant practice, he became quite expert just at the age of seven and after a year he was playing the blues just like a veteran. Bonamassa says, "My father was a guitar dealer and player, so guitars were always around the house and part of my life. They were like chairs or tables, in that they were just as everyday." His style can be suitably compared with other famous blues rock-style, such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Jonny Lang. In fact Bonamassa was quite influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

He gave his first performance just at the age of 12, when he opened for B. B. King. Later, he was also invited to attend an event of Fender guitar, to the West Coast, at that time he was only 14 years old. It was during this period that he met Berry Oakley, Jr., the son of The Allman Brothers Band bassist. Both of them discovered their passion with music and as a result Joe and Berry founded the group Bloodline with Miles Davis's son Erin and Robby Krieger's son Waylon. After forming they started practicing seriously and passionately and released one album, on EMI, that immediately produced two chart singles - "Stone Cold Hearted" and "Dixie Peach."In the year 2000, Bonamassa released his first solo album entitled "A New Day Yesterday". The album was produced by none other than the legendary Tom Dowd. Among all the songs, the number "Miss You / Hate You" from that CD became so popular that it still continues to be prominently featured in all of Bonamassa's shows. Later, as Bonamassa embarked upon a tour for the promotion of the album, he brought in drummer Kenny Kramme and bassist Eric Czar as bandmates so as to accompany him during the tour.

After completion of the touring in support of the album, Bonamassa and his newly formed band returned back to the studio in the year 2002. They started to work with producer Clif Magness, who also has the reputation of producing Avril Lavigne's album, to release his next second solo album entitled "So It's Like That." Well with the release of the album it really created some uproar as it is more inclined to the traditional rock music than blues, unlike his other three studio albums. This album captured the fancy of his fans and it reached number one on the Billboard Blues Chart and when he again embarked upon tour for the promotion of the album, his fans requested him to release sum more traditional blues album. And it so happened when Bonamassa, returned to the studio after the tour, he recorded another album "Blues Deluxe," in the year 2003, with the flavor of traditional rock music and which was also released so as to support the Year of the Blues. The album consists of nine covers of tunes of classic blues accompanied with three other songs written by Bonamassa. Nevertheless, this album too reached number one on the Billboard Blues Chart.

In the year 2006 he released his next album entitled "You & Me" that continues with the tradition of blues-rock. Not only this album too appeared at #1 on the Billboard Blues album chart. Next is his album, Bonamassa that features the talents of a number of famous studio musicians, such as Jason Bonham, son of the legendary John Bonham. The track "Your Funeral And My Trial" on the album, featured harmonica prodigy LD Miller.
