Jodeci was a major influence on most of the black R&B groups who succeeded them, including Jagged Edge, 112, Next, and Dru Hill. In fact, Dru Hill, with their "bad boy" style image and K-Ci-esque lead vocals, were accused of completely ripping off Jodeci's style.
Three of the singles from their first album, "Forever my Lady", hit #1 on the R&B charts. It featured the gold single "Come and Talk to Me" and went on to sell over three million copies.
Jodeci was also a part of an MTV unplugged episode and recorded the Uptown Unplugged episode with greats like Father MC, Heavy D, Mary J. Blige and Christopher Williams.
A minor feud resulted over the band's follow-up album, Diary of a Mad Band; Jodeci, unhappy with their treatment by Uptown, flirted with the idea of leaving for Dr. Dre's Death Row Records, which resulted in almost zero promotion for their new album. It didn't matter much, as Diary went platinum.
Jodeci's third album, The Show, the After Party, the Hotel, was released in the summer of 1995. DeVante also was afforded the opportunity to work with Al Green, one of his idols, writing and producing the song "Could This Be the Love."
For all of its success, The Show, The After Party, The Hotel proved to be the last album the group would release.
After ten years, Jodeci's first greatest hits album, Back to the Future: The Very Best of Jodeci, was released in 2005, when the band came back together for a song. It debuted at #6 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart, and at #27 on the Billboard 200.
Jodeci was the starting point for the careers of artists such as Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and Ginuwine.

Jodeci is famous for its bad boy hip-hop image. Jodeci's wild, sexual bad-boy image represents the popular culture of R&B, soul music and new jack swing.
Two families from Charlotte, North Carolina came together to form this band. The four members of this group consist of the Hailey and DeGrate brothers - Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey, Joel "Jo-Jo" Hailey, Donald "DeVante Swing" DeGrate and Dalvin DeGrate. Donald DeGrate is the founder member; Cedric and Joel Hailey are the lead singers.
The groups name is a consolidation of the three member aliases Jo-Jo, DeGrate and K-Ci.
All four members used to tour the South as young boys singing gospel music, even recording albums. The Hailey brothers and DeVante eventually became friends and discussed possibly making albums together.
DeVante ran away to Minneapolis, Minnesota when he was sixteen to audition for Prince's band but was turned down. On his return to Charlotte he helped Jo-Jo record a song that he was going to perform. The two loved the success and popularity of this recorded song and took it to New York where hip hop artist and record producer Heavy D heard one of the tapes and loved it. He got Uptown Records CEO Andre Harrell to listen to the tape and obviously the great R&B group's music managed to impress the guy who signed them up immediately.
Sean "Puffy" Combs was put in charge of developing Jodeci into a successful act, and had a major role in defining their style and sound. He helped the group create its rough hip-hop-based image.
