Jefferson Starship is the highly successful succssor to the legendary Jefferson Airplane. They were the biggest arena rock bands during the 1970s and the '80s. It evolved out of the band Jefferson Airplane and continued playing their songs . The two singers from Airplane, Grace Slick and Marty Balin, departed in 1978. With changing band membership it somehow won audience appreciation. Gradually they moved to more commercial pop territory and changed their name again to be known as Starship.

Dwelling in the inbetween realms of science fiction, JEFFERSON STARSHIP comprises both old and new players which includes Paul Kantner, the songwriter/guitarist/vocalist. Kantner and Balin got together to form JEFFERSON AIRPLANE in 1965. The stellar cast also comprised of Jorma Kaukonen the guitarist, Signe Anderson the vocalist and Skip Spence the drummer. Known for hits as "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" which became the anthems for the "Summer of Love." Both of these songs hit the Top 10 that year, propelling JEFFERSON AIRPLANE to the most successful rock band altar.

The band finally disbanded in 1972 and as you know JEFFERSON STARSHIP followed in 1974. Their initial release, ''Dragonfly'' caught on the national pulse. The hit singles "Ride the Tiger" and "Caroline," were both penned by Kantner. ''Red Octopus'' was the first major success for the band. Then came Spitfire (1976), Earth (1978), Freedom at Point Zero (1979)Winds of Change (1981) and Nuclear Furniture (1983). Kanter, after Balin, got to pursuing his solo career. Eventually he departed from the band to work on his own projects.

A few years later, Kantner got back on the road with an acoustic ensemble PAUL KANTNER'S WOODEN SHIPS. It met with immense success and prompted Kantner to reinvent JEFFERSON STARSHIP once again. It now comprised of Aguilar and Gorman too. Kantner also roped in former collaborators Jack Casady, Papa John Creach, Prairie Prince and Darby Gould. Eventaully Marty Balin rejoined the band putting an end to a 15-year hiatus from the group.

In 1995, JEFFERSON STARSHIP paid a tribute to Papa John, who had expired by then at Hollywood's House of Blues. It was broadcast on the CBS Radio Network Concert Series nationally. Grace Slick was the guest performer who gave her last live performance to date. Then came the 1995 release Deep Space/Virgin Sky.

The following year Paul Kanter and Marty Balin joined The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as members of JEFFERSON AIRPLANE. Since their reform in 1992, JEFFERSON STARSHIP has performed in almost 700 concerts across 16 countries. Their live shows are huge sell outs. So when you want to join the band wagon get the tickets from an online ticket vendor.
