Jay Mohr is well known American actor, who is more popular for his stand-up comedy. He started his career in comedy when he was still a teenager. He never thought that he will make a career out of comedy. Because while at high school, he was more interested in sports, such as wrestling and a cut-up. But his friends liked him for his sense of humor and this encouraged him to take up stand-up comedy seriously. After graduating he started doing shows. As luck would have it, he didn't had to struggle much as a comedian. He started earning by putting up comic shows. At the age of 21, he migrated to New York. His big break came when he was approached by Saturday Night Live and he started appearing as a featured player at the show during the seasons of 1993-94 and 1994-95. Though he was appreciated by by SNL creator/producer Lorne Michaels, but Mohr left the show later on due to personal reasons. After leaving the show, Mohr also played a role of Jeff Foxworthy's brother, Wayne, in the first season of The Jeff Foxworthy Show.

In the year 1999, he started starring in his own television series, "Action", where he played the the character of a sleazy film producer, Peter Dragon. Mohr was widely appreciated for this role. In the year 2001, he was asked by ESPN, to host a talk show, entitled Mohr Sports, although it continued for short time, it was a grand success. He also acted in an episode of CSI: Miami as a lawyer, as an out of character appearance. He also took part in a documentary series of the Fox Sports Net, which tells the story of the lives of the athletes beyond the playing arena, where in Mohr was the voice-over artist for Beyond the Glory. In the year 2003 and 2004 he was the creator, executive producer as well as the host of one of the reality television program named, NBC's Last Comic Standing. It is believed to be one of his most visible television roles. On the final season of Last Comic Standing 4, Mohr was invited as the guest comedian to a great ovation.
In the year 2004 he also published his own autobiography, Gasping for Airtime: Two Years in the Trenches of Saturday Night Live that gives details of the tumultuous period of his life when he was working with Saturday Night Live, including his battle with chronic panic attacks. He has also been listed as #86 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 greatest stand ups of all-time. In addition to shows, he has also appeared in many popular movies like Jerry Maguire, Small Soldiers, Go and Pay it Forward. The favorite characters he like to replay is that James Barone from "Good Morning Brooklyn" and a list of other celebrity impersonations on SNL are Andrew McCarthy, Anthony Kiedis, Billy Idol, Christopher Walken, Don Rickles, Joe Perry, Kenny G., Mickey Rourke, Ricki Lake, Sean Penn and Tony Bennett. He was also one of the many guest host of The Jim Rome Show. In the year 2005, he was invited to perform at the NASCAR Awards Banquet in New York City. Apart from doing shows he has also been acting in various films such as Jerry Maguire, Picture Perfect, Jane Austen's Mafia!, Small Soldiers, Pay It Forward, S1m0ne, Seeing Other People, Are We There Yet?, The Groomsmen, Scarface: The World Is Yours, Community Service, Lonely Street and Christmas Every Day.
