Jane Monheit is a vocalist and musician from New York City. Jane won her first recognition as a singer when at the ripe age of 20 she came runner-up in the 1998 Theolonius Monk Institute vocal competition. The second place finish won her a 10,000 dollar scholarship to further her musical education. Her next album was 'Come Dream with Me' and was released in 2001. It consisted depicted several standards and also included some lesser known jazz compositions. The album did not get the same acclaim and praise that her debut had attained but it vividly showed the growth as a performer. She came the following year with her third record, 'In the Sun.'
