Cullum continued his studies and earned his degree from the Reading University. It was in this period that he also recorded his first album, 'Jamie Cullum Trio -- Heard It All Before,' at the ripe age of 19. The success of the album was surprising for the young musician but it got him a lot of acclaim and also helped him make some strong links in the industry. He encountered jazz bassist Geoff Gascoyne and he gave Cullum the chance to play on his album, 'Songs of the Summer.' With the initial support of Gascoyne, Cullum recorded his next album in 2002 and was titled, 'Pointless Nostalgic.'

The album was another success and received extensive airplay on radio channels and most notably on TV and Radio personality Michael Parkinson's BBC 2 radio show. His got him more publicity and Cullum signed a lucrative deal with Universal Records and released his third album in 2003 titled, 'Twenty something.'
