The band Jackyl was formed in the year 1990. It is an American rock and roll band. They have got unique sound to their music and most of the time it has been characterized as the rare coalescence of Southern rock, hard rock and heavy metal. Due to this unique combination, sometimes their music has also been characterized incorrectly as hair metal. Although most of their albums was a hit, but they are most popularly known for their astounding song "The Lumberjack". The song features a chainsaw solo by Jesse James Dupree who is lead singer in the band. In this song, Dupree has given a special treatment by transposing the chainsaw's motor by changing the beat by moving it up or down. Not only in the album, he performs this stunt live in his shows too and the zenith of the show reaches when Dupree slice up a wooden stool on stage. The former band members are Thomas Bettini as the bassist, Jimmy Stiff as the guitarist. The current band members are Jesse Dupree as the lead vocalist / chainsaw, Jeff Worley as the guitarist, Roman Glick as the bassist and Chris Worley as the drummer.

In the year 1992, Jackyl released his self-titled debut album and it became so popular that it went platinum. In the year 1994, the band was invited at the Woodstock in Saugerties, New York to perform at the festival. A strange incident took place in the year 1993-1994, when Jackyl approached K-Mart in Georgia to sell their album, the latter refused and so as to make it a statement, they played a concert right in front of a K-mart. Not only this, they also made a footage of the concert and kept the music video and also used it in their single "I Stand Alone". In the year 1997, they released "Locked and Loaded" which was a super hit. This song also featured guest vocals from AC/DC's Brian Johnson. Johnson like the band so much, that he again joined the band for their next album "Relentless" in the year 2002. In the same year they were also a part of the tour of the Rock Never Stops Tour.

After the events of September 11, 2001, Jackyl came out with a "Open Invitation," that was released right after the event. The album had a nice tune that was very passionate and melodious and as expected it received huge audience as well as wide airplay and it featured some funny lyrics such as , "I hate you bin Laden" and "You've got an open invitation to kiss our ass." Not only this, the song was mixed with some originative clips, such as the depiction of George S. Patton while giving a speech to his soldiers in the movie Patton, as portrayed by George C. Scott and also featuring President George W. Bush as he reads from the Bible's Shepherd's Psalm Psalm 23:4. The band in one of their interview explained in context of this song and lyrics as: "This song is written in the key of 'ANGER' that such a thing can happen in this country. It's not directed toward any religious group or race of people. It is directed toward those 'assholes' responsible."
