Ingrid's early life started with her artistic parents. Her mother was a successful sculptor, and her father was a composer. She was introduced to piano at age four and trained for three years at the Third Street Music School. She continued her practice at the Jewish Community Center of the Kuhn Music Institute. She met a vocal coach by the name of Elizabeth McCullough, who continued to work with her throughout high school. She eventually would graduate with a degree in theater from Binghamton University. Ingrid made her mark in the theater group Kids on Stage, eventually directing until she decided to pursue a career in music with her training.
In 2008, she opened from Jason Mraz on a European tour. Her songs were noticed by TV series and used in both Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill as theme songs. She became a musical guest in 2008 in many national television shows. Later, her song Be OK appeared in A commercial for Mott's Apple Juice.
