Heather Small was born on 20 January, 1965 and is an English soul singer. Its her unique and distinctive voice that is instantly recognizable to many people. Born and brought up in West London, Heather joined her first group, Hot House, while she was still a teenager. In 1998 after M People had recorded some of the 'best of' album, Heather and the band took some time off to concentrate on their solo projects. To take Heathers popularity to greater heights, this song turned out to be the 'unofficial Olympic theme'. The good time was on roll and following the success of Proud, the next single, Holding on and in November 2000 a duet single with Tom Jones, called You Need Love Like I Do. This song was also recorded on the 1999 album Reload. At this point of time, content with the success and fame she had received by now, Heather has been taking time off to look after her son and start recording her new solo album. Although she has maintained to dazzle on small screen, she can occasionally be seen on such TV programs as Parkinson and Songs of Praise. Her contribution in Tsunami relief can not be ignored as she also sang three songs at the Tsunami Relief Concert at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

In 2005, Heather's solo single Proud became the official soundtrack for London's 2012 Olympic bid. Back in the scene and she released another album with some of her solo songs as well as M People songs, the album was entitled, M People featuring Heather Small, The Ultimate Collection. The popularity and love for the song Proud didn't fade and it was used as the theme music for the second season of NBC's weight-losing reality show The Biggest Loser, and several remixed versions of the song were used on Showtime's Queer as Folk. With the fall of 2005, Heather was ready to mark her presence in the television industry in full fledged way, and made her U.S. television debut performing Proud whereupon Oprah named it the new theme to the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Heather recorded her new album on the 1 March 2006, Heather released a new single, 'Radio On' in the UK on July 17th 2006 and her second solo album, 'Close To A Miracle' was released on July 24th. Autumn of this year is already booked with her UK solo tour. The song 'Proud' is being used on the soundtrack of the film 'Akeelah and the Bee'. The soundtrack was released in the US on April 4th and the film will be released in US theaters on April 24th. In 2006, the song "Proud" has been used as the main campaign song for Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick
