Gregory Lenoir Allman or Gregg Allman is a multi-talented artist. Born on 8th December, 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee, Gregg Allman is a rock and blues singer, guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter. Gregg Allman has a older brother Duane Allman. Both the brothers were interested in music. Duane became a superior guitarist while Gregg was more interested in vocals. His favorite singer was Little Milton. Gregg Allman from mid to late 1960's played with number of bands like The Escorts and Allman Joys. They mostly gig around the American Southeast. Allman Joys changed their name to Hour Glass and were signed by the Liberty Records. The group produced some very psychedelic blues albums. But the members were not satisfied with the results and Duane Allman was very critical of their output.
Hour Glass broke up following the release of their second album. Duane Allman went back to South and was soon able to form a new group The Allman Brothers Band. The members of the band were Berry Oakley on bass, drums by Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson and Butch Trucks, Duane and Dickey Betts on guitars. In the March of 1969 Gregg Allman joined the band as a singer. Gregg was very eager to play Hammond Organ, and was given the opportunity once he joined the band. His style at times have been compared to style of Jimmy Smith.. For the band Gregg played Hammond B-3 and was involved with lot of lead vocal and songwriting duties. In addition he sometimes played piano and guitar.

Gregg Allman in the mid-1970's he embarked on a solo career. In 1973 he released his first album titled " Laid Back". The album received critical acclaim. The album consisted of couple of reworked songs of the The Allman Brothers Band. Like horn-laden, swampy version of song " Midnight Rider". The original songs were " Queen of Hearts", "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?", "These Day". His solo career continued intermittently for the following decades. He sometime toured alone when Allman Brothers Band was not touring. He gave solo performances with other groups like the Gregg Allman Band and Gregg Allman & Friends.
The year of 1986 was marked by his biggest hit single " I'm No Angel". The song was in the album of same name. The production of the song was overly slick and completely fitted in the time it was recorded. It fitted the persona of Gregg as singer. The other acclaimed song on the album were "Lead Me On" and " Can't Keep Running". Gregg Allman has made guest appearances on the albums of many other artists. He was also seen on video in the concert DVD which marked the the twenty-fifth anniversary of the band The Radiators. He played " Midnight Rider" with the group. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue introduced Gregg in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2006. The function was held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta where he played " Georgia on My Mind" and received many standing ovations for his musical genius. He ended the show with " Midnight Rider".
