Googoosh began her singing and acting career from a tender age. Her father/acrobat, Saber Atashin was her prime support. Her name is actually an Armenian boy's name which was given to her at her birth. Since Googoosh was a boy's name her parents had to face problems while registering the name on the birth certificate. Eventually, she was registered under the name Faegheh Atashin.

 When Googoosh was an infant, her father and mother got divorced and she moved with her father because of the patriarchal custody laws in Iran. When she was only 3, she took up the microphone and sang. Only at the age of 4, she acted for the royal court of the Shah. Former empress Soraya was greatly impressed with little Googoosh's acting. She encouraged Googoosh for pursuing acting. Googoosh started her career as a child artist, singing and acting in numerous Iranian movies. In the late 1950s and 1960s Googoosh became the most beloved child movie star in the contemporary Iranian society.
While Googoosh was in her twenties, she participated in several music festivals. For her French numbers "J'entends crier Je t'aime" and "Retour de la vie" she won the first prize in an international festival organized by Orthodox Records. In 1973, Googoosh recorded 12 songs in Spanish and Italian and she became popular overnight. In 1972 she won first prizes both in Carthage Music Festival and Arts of Tunisia Event. Her Spanish song entitled "Desde Hacies Tiempo" became an instant hit in South America In 1973.
As time rolled by, Googoosh experimented different musical genres in her singing. Western Jazz, Rock, Blues, Latin, Disco, and other pop beats had been beautifully explored and represented by Googoosh. Legendary composers of the likes of Shamaizadeh, Varoojan and And Farid Zoland helped Googoosh made her songs immediate hits. She got a very good platform when she got the recognition as the biggest 1970s Iranian Pop Culture Icons. She used to wear short hair and a mini-jupe thus showing Western influence on her. However, things were not all that easy. Following Iranian Revolution most of the female singers including Googoosh were banned from public appearance. So, she ventured into other countries like Uzbekistan , Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Bahrain , Turkey , Iraq And Azerbaijan. Although she could speak Persian, Azeri, English and a little Armenian, she used to sing in 12 different languages.
In 2000, "Googoosh : Iran's Daughter ", a featured-length documentary was released all across the world. She became very popular in America and had been invited to perform there.
