Verizon Heritage Tickets The history of the Verizon Heritage dates back to Thanksgiving weekend, November 27-30, 1969, when innovative Sea Pines designer Charles Fraser gave that first tournament on the newly created Harbour Town Golf Links a traditional twist by calling it the Heritage Classic. That strong tradition continues with the next playing of Verizon Heritage golf tournament, April 12-18, 2010, so get your tickets right away.
Back then, not too many people were aware of Hilton Head's location, and may even have struggled to find it on the map. Besides the Heritage's remote location, there were a couple of other questions. Would people come to watch golf on Thanksgiving weekend? Would the world's top golfers wish to be challenged by this new and unfamiliar course?
That questions began answering themselves when the best in the game were amongst the first to commit. When you have The King – Arnold Palmer, and the equally great Jack Nicklaus – who helped design Harbour Town along with young Pete Dye, you have cleared the first hurdle.
Then, the good fortune continued for the Heritage and Harbour Town Golf Links when Palmer went on to win that initial tournament, his first victory in 14 months. This result led the media to do the rest by generating volumes of complimentary copy in reference to Arnold's victory, Dye's superb new links course, as well as Hilton Head Island.

Verizon Heritage (2010)

 Since the Heritage's modest beginning, the tournament has of course changed with the times, with the first one being its move from Thanksgiving weekend to a more advantageous date, the week after the Masters in April. The tournament has also experienced a few name changes, but is confirmed as the Verizon Heritage through 2010.
The growth of the Verizon Heritage has been incredible, most notably displayed by the growth of the prize money from the original $100,000 (of which Palmer collected only $20,000) to last April's $5.5 million, which saw the winner, Boo Weekley, receiving $990,000. Other examples of the crowds and media exposure keeping pace is that some 135,000 fans have attended each year, with CBS and The Golf Channel blocking out 12 hours of live TV coverage; transmitted globally to Europe, South America and the Orient. Of course, all of this exposure translates into increased tourism and sales, pumping up the economy of both Hilton Head Island and the State of South Carolina; a 2005 Clemson Economic Impact Study said the Verizon Heritage infuses $84 million into the state every single year.
The Verizon Heritage is proud of its champions, some of the most distinguished players in golf's history. Other than Arnold Palmer, other legendary names found inscribed on the champion's trophy include Jack Nicklaus, Bernhard Langer, Johnny Miller, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Tom Watson, Davis Love III and the late Payne Stewart to name a few.
