Background - Solheim Cup
The tournament is played over three days; it consists of 28 matches with eight foursome matches and eight four-ball matches. Usually twelve singles played on the final day.
Last year Nancy Lopez was the caption of the American Solheim Cup team and it was played from Sept. 9-11 at the popular Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. Lopez began her remarkable career (rookie) with a tremendous record-setting five consecutive wins in 1978 and nine total wins that season, this was the most ever by a first-year Tour Member. She also acclaimed the Vare Trophy and Rolex Player of the year honors in the same season. On, July 20, 1987, she became the eleventh member of the reputed LPGA Tour Hall of fame.
In 2003, the European Solheim Cup Team rode the momentum of an incredibly massive and supportive Swedish Crowd and ultimately clinched the Cup, by dominating the popular Sunday singles matches.

 The Solheim Cup is a biennial trans-Atlantic team matchplay competition that is played between the women's golf teams of the United States and Europe. The tournament is considered one of the premier event in women's golf circuit.
The Solheim Cup was founded by Karsten Manufacturing Corporation (KMC) - makers of PING golf equipment in 1990. The event features 12 of the top European born players from the Ladies European Tour (LET) and 12 top American born players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). The cup is played over a period of three days. It consists of 28 matches - eight foursome matches, eight four-ball matches and 12 singles played on the final day.
The tournament is a coveted prize in Ladies golf and is played amidst immense competition. Players on both sides of the Atlantic have to compete for points in their respective tours to earn a place on either team. The US team is selected by a points system, American players on the LPGA Tour receive points for every good finish on the tour. For the European team, seven players are selected on a specific points system that is based on the results on the Ladies European Tour.
The USA leads by six encounters to three over Europe after the ninth edition of the matches took place at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana in September 2005. The European team came out victorious at The 2003 Solheim Cup in Sweden and once gain the Ladies European Tour is proud to announce that The Solheim Cup will return to Sweden again in 2007. Maybe the Charm of Sweden can inspire the European team to another victory. The matches are slated to be played at Halmstad Golfklubb in Sweden, from September 14-16th 2007.
