The Canadian Open is the second oldest tournament on the PGA calendar, and the third oldest national championship in the world. Along with the British and U.S. Opens, the Canadian Open makes up the Triple Crown of national championships, and given its prestigious history and rich tradition, the Canadian is much more than just a regular golf championship. As with many of the other older tournaments, the first Canadian Open was only 36-holes long and played in just one day. The winner of that first event, John H. Oke, shot 156 and took home $60 as his prize.

In addition to great finishes, the RBC Canadian Open has provided some fascinating stories, such as 15 year-old Bob Panasiuk of Windsor becoming youngest player ever to make the cut at a PGA event in 1957, or Greg Norman hitting a rare double eagle on the 6th hole at Glen Abbey. The Canadian Open was also the site of the first of Arnold Palmer's 61 PGA Tour victories, and one year Lee Trevino actually wore his pajamas under his golf shirt and pants to keep warm.
