Background - Fbr Open
The 2005 FBR Open will be held on January 31st through February 6th at the TPC in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Last year Jonathan Kaye captured the title with a four-under-par 67 on the final round on Sunday. He was awarded the $936,000.00 first place prize. Can he repeat? Johnny Miller was the last person to win The Phoenix Open twice in a row in 1975. Since then Hogan, Demaret, Mangrum and Palmer have also repeated as champions in successive years.  The 2007 FBR Open is being played from Jan. 29-Feb. 4 2007. The 2006 edition marked the 71st chapter of this Open and its third as the FBR Open. This makes the Tournament one of the five oldest events on the PGA tour.
The 2006 FBR Open was held at the TPS of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona from 2nd Feb to 5th Feb 2005. The course attracted all the top golfers of the world. The defending champion Phil Mickelson was looking to retain his title but he faced a formidable field of opponents and his task would be tough. The event created a star this year, PGA Tour rookie J.B. Holmes coasted to a seven-shot victory, he displayed awesome power hitting and precision in his shots to become of the youngest winners on the PGA Tour.
The leader after the third round was American J.B. Holmes and he led by a single stroke. He eagled the par-five 15th and drove the green at the par-four 17th to finish the tournament with a score of five-under-par 66 on the Stadium Course at the TPC of Scottsdale. The rookie is just 23-year-old and just turned professional last year. He sealed his victory in only his fourth start since becoming a PGA Tour member.
The records don't stop there, he has also become the quickest player to earn $1 million on the PGA Tour breaking the record of South Africa's Retief Goosen who reached the figure after five tournament appearances in 2001. Ryan Palmer became the leader with nine holes to play but couldn't hold on, he had to settled for second position tied with five other players. He ended the day with a score of 72 which included a triple-bogey eight on the 15th hole. Defending champion Phil Mickelson could do little to stop the rookie from clinching his maiden PGA title.
