Bmw Championship Tickets The BMW Championship has traditionally been known as the Western Open on the PGA Tour, until 2007 when it took on the title of BMW Championship, and also became one of the four FedEx Cup "playoff" tournaments. This event is also the oldest regular PGA Tour event, dating back to 1899, and with only the U.S. Open and British Open being older. At various times in its history, the BMW Championship (Western Open) has rotated among courses in the Midwest and West, but is most frequently played on courses in the Chicago area. The two Chicagoland courses to host this event most often are Butler National Golf Club in Oak Brook, and the Dubsdread Course at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois. In the first two years it was played, the BMW Championship was only a two-round tournament. After not being played in 1900, it expanded to four rounds in 1902. Willie Smith was the first tow-round winner in 1899, and Willie Anderson won the first 72-hole event in 1902 with a score of 299, thus making him the first golfer ever to shoot below 300 in a 72-hole U.S. tournament. In 2009, Tiger Woods charged to a huge lead with a third-round 62, and resulting in a dominant 8-stroke victory. This was Tiger's fifth win in BMW Championship, tying him with Walter Hagen for most wins here, while his 62 also set a tournament scoring record for 18 holes.

 After Hagen's and Woods' five wins each, Willie Anderson and Billy Casper have each won the Western Open four times, followed by four golfers having won the BMW Championship three times each; Macdonald Smith (1912, 1925, 1933), Jim Barnes (1914, 1917, 1919), Ralph Guldahl (1936, 1937, 1938) and Tom Watson (1974, 1977, 1984). Other notable BMW Championship accomplishments: Tiger Woods also holds the overall Championship record with a tournament total of 262, as well his aforementioned single-round record of 62, while two amateurs have won this tournament; Chick Evans in 1910 and Scott Verplank in 1985. Having been played at numerous other courses during its long history, the current intent of the PGA Tour is for the BMW Championship to be played in Chicago every other year, with the 2010 event returning to Cog Hill.
