 Few would have thought that Glee would popular enough to survive as a television show, much less a Glee Live tour. The show began as the concept of Ian Brennan, who used his time as a member of the glee club at his high school (Mount Prospect, IL) as the basis for the television show. Show runner Ryan Murphy was impressed by the script and recounted his own time in choir and brought the script to FOX, who previously aired his famed series Nip/Tuck on FX.
FOX picked the show up and used American Idol as a lead in, capturing the right audience to cultivate a massive audience. Though Glee has earned some notoriety for pushing the limit, touching on sensitive issues like teen pregnancy and gay bashing, the show has ultimately become a massive success.
The show has, perhaps, succeeded because of its insistence on using the song book of popular contemporary artists nearly every episode and its brazen persistence of creating a night time comedic teenage soap opera replete with modern day issues. The popularity has driven many to eagerly await and search for Glee tickets for the latest live performances.
