Gino Vannelli is a son of jazz singer while his mother was equally interested in music. In his childhood he was deeply inspired by jazz drummers like Elvin Jones, Gene Krupa, Joe Morello and Ed Thigpen. He formed his own rock band "Cobras" just at the age of twelve. In Canada he was signed by the RCA Records before his seventeenth birthday. He soon released a single under the pseudonym Van Elli, "Gina Bold" b/w "Never Cry Again.". Vannelli and his brother Joe Vannelli then moved to New York in the pursuit for signing with an American Record Company. But to their dismay no company was ready to work with an artist who was working with music not popular in the mainstream. But soon luck striked and Vannelli with his musical talent was able to impress the co-owner of A&M Records, Herb Albert. With A&M Records he recorded six albums between 1974 and 1978. The album had songs like "Crazy Life," "Mama Coco," "People Gotta Move," and "Lady."

Five of those six albums he recorded with A&M Records featured on the Billboard album charts. The 1978 album "Brother to Brother" which earned Top 20 position. Vannelli with his songs inspired by R&B and Jazz soon had a significant cross over fan following. He toured as opening act for Stevie Wonder. He received nominations for Grammy Awards and soon conducted his own concerts in US cities. In Canada he won many Juno Awards.
In 1980 he signed with Arista Records and released an album " Nightwalker". In 1985 he released " Black Cars" with HME. The album was very successful. Two years his another album " Big Dreamers Never Sleep " released on CBS Records. The single in the album "Wild Horses," featured on op 10 position in many countries.
Both albums "Black Cars " and " Big Dreamers Never Sleep" were big hit in continental Europe. In 2005 he signed with Universal Music and released a CD "These Are The Days" in 2006.
