Artist History - Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac is the soft rock group from the 1970s that has continued to play together through the ages despite seemingly endless personal rifts. The upcoming 2013 North American tours will feature four of the five band mates from the most popular period in their long history and be built around the group’s most popular album, Rumours. With Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks on board, these Fleetwood Mac concert tickets are going to be just as popular as if Christine McVie, the fifth band member, had chosen to put aside her differences and take the stage.

Rumours is over three decades old and its songs are still in major rotation. “Go Your Own Way” has been recognized as one of the best rock songs of all time. Lindsey Buckingham wrote the song to put his complications with Stevie Nicks into lyrics. Nicks would sing the track, making this one of the most emotionally charged songs of rock in any decade. “Dream” is another example of the heavy emotional turmoil at the time of the album’s recording.  This time Nicks wrote the song as the denial could go no longer and she and Buckingham finally broke off the eight-year relationship. It took a little guitar inspiration from her former lover to convince everyone to record the track. It would be one of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits.

These songs will not be the only classics performed on the newly announced tour. Expect “Tusk” and “Landslide”, among many others to be added to the set list. With regards to the new album, Fleetwood Mac has promised to play two songs. The album has yet to be complete, but the band is expected to be working on the album while they tour the United States and Canada. This means the band is going to be pulling double duty, performing for those with concert tickets to the first Fleetwood Mac shows in four years and playing in the studio to release the first new album in a decade.

Fleetwood Mac

These hard times saw one platinum album, Bare Trees in 1972, and two gold albums, Future Games in 1971 and Mystery to Me in 1973. It was not until 1975 when the lineup finally found some consistency with Americans Lindsey Buckingham as the guitarist/vocals and Stevie Nicks as the lead singer in addition to the UK lineup of Christine McVie as the keyboardist/vocals, John McVie as the bassist, and Mick Fleetwood as the drummer, that Fleetwood Mac was able to settle into a period when they could sellout tickets for big shows and reach platinum certification repeatedly.

The breakthrough album was Rumours. The album went platinum 19 times according to the RIAA and 10 times according to the BPI. Singles like Gold Dust Woman, The Chain, Go Your Own Way, Dreams, and Don't Stop carried tremendous radio play and even helped the album win the Grammy for Album of the Year. For the next 12 years Fleetwood Mac was a powerhouse selling tour tickets and platinum albums.

The albums would start out as Buckingham solo projects and morph into grand group affairs. Eventually a schism cracked the group's foundation. Buckingham withdrew from Fleetwood Mac, refusing to tour and sell tickets to promote 1987's Tango in the Night. He and Nicks had choice words and the magic was seemingly over.

Once again the band lineups began to alter. For four years Rick Vito and Billy Burnette joined as guitarists and for vocals. In 1992 Vito and Nicks left and Bekka Bramlett took her place as the lead singer and Dave Mason joined as the guitarist and vocalist. The lineup would remain until 1996. Behind the Mask (1990) was the only album to reach any certification until 2003. Though popularity began to escape the group, they still managed to move enough Fleetwood Mac tickets to keep the groups name alive.

Though the group constantly teetered on the edge of dissolution, the key members kept finding ways to work with each other, even Buckingham. By 2006 the group of the seventies and eighties was set to reunite. Nicks, Buckingham, John McVie, and Fleetwood would whittle Fleetwood Mac down to a very successful four-member group that could make a huge impression touring with Fleetwood Mac tickets.

Fleetwood Mac will begin working on a much anticipated album in October of 2008. Early rumors had Sheryl Crow joining the oft-changing lineup to replace Christine McVie, but the rumors have been denied by Stevie Nicks. Instead, the Fleetwood Mac will start the recording session with its current members (Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Lindsey Buckingham) and is negotiating a deal with Wal-Mart for the exclusive release of the new album.

The release of a new album will mean that the band that rocked out through three decades and has endured band and personal breakups and make ups will be back on the road and Fleetwood Mac tickets will soon be available for a new generation to enjoy the classic rock and roll and that influenced so many of today's artists. The tour is expected to begin in early 2009 with the release of a new album following soon after.
