Band is named after father of great astronomer Galileo Galilei who was himself a great composer of his times. Group is formed by equally learned and well versed in music artist.
Liz Knowles who plays fiddle is a classical musician. She has performed and recorded with many other acclaimed artist like pop singer Paula Cole, lassical minimalist composer Steve Reich and Marcus Roberts a jazz pianist. Apart from these she has also worked on albums of many other musician such as The String Sisters, Bachue, Flook, Beolach, Liz Carroll, and John Whelan.
Kathryn Montoya has played with many groups like Cleveland Orchestra, Aradia Ensemble, The Newberry Consort, Washington Bach Consort, Apollo's Fire, Ensemble Arion, and Chicago Opera Theatre. In the American Bach Soloist Competition she was a finalist. She has also played as a solo artist with Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and Bloomington Early Music Festival Orchestra.

Sue Richards has been playing pedal and Celtic since her childhood days. She collects mostly Scandinavian and Celtic tunes. For four times Sue has been winner of Scottish Harp Society of America championship and recorded with number of friends.
In addition to being a musician Deborah Nuse is also a nursery school teacher, portrait artist, calligrapher,graphic artist, and petsitter. It was 1990 she under Hamish Moore, a great piper started playing Scottish Small pipes. She has gained lot of experience in music by playing for contra dance with bands like Absence of Mallards and Spontaneous Combustion.
Carolyn Anderson Surrick has been playing viola da gamba when she was 16 years old. Many will be surprised to know that she has started playing music professionally just at the age of 14. She started Music in the Great Hall Series in 1990 in Annapolis, Maryland. With it she introduced th town to some very fine early and traditional music. While in 1990 she also formed the Ensemble Galilei. She wanted to create a group that was as passionate about music as she and has been successful in this task.
Ensemble Galilei have been praised by media for their musical genius. The Washington Post once said " Virtuoso technique, an instinctive feeling for the idiom, and the courage to improvise . . . they play with energy, splendid ensemble, good humor and imagination."
The albums of EG have been also widely acclaimed by everyone. The album "A Winter's Night: Christmas in the Great Hall" with 16 instrumental was well received. Dirty Linen described it as "... a lovely blend of instrumental music on A Winter's Night....The most charming aspect of the collection, however, is the way the Ensemble Galilei weaves all of these melodies into a 55-minute tapestry broken only by an enthusiastic audience response between each piece."
