Artist Biography - Emerson String Quartet

In March 1997, the Emerson Quartet released a seven-disc set of complete Beethoven quartets. In the same year they had also organized some performances entitled "Beethoven and the Twentieth Century," at New York's Lincoln Center. In fact, it was a number of total eight concerts which paired two Beethoven quartets alongwith a twentieth-century composition. This series achieved tremendous initial reviews thus resulting in completely sold-out for the eventual performances.
In 2000, the Emerson String Quartet performed the complete Shostakovich quartets at New York's Wigmore Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Barbican Centre in London. The series ended with director Simon McBurney's theatrical presentation of "The Noise of Time". The project was rejuvenated with 15th String Quartet which depicted the haunted life of Dmitri Shostakovich. The Emerson String Quartet also performed at the Aspen Music Festival and got rave reviews for their 15th String Quartet of Dmitri Shostakovich.
In addition to Emerson String Quartet's active performance schedule at various venues across North America in 2005-2006, they also toured many countries which included Switzerland Italy, Spain, Austria and Germany.
