Artist Biography - Elton John
Elton John's career has spanned four decades. Over that time he has sold over 200 million records; released seven consecutive number one albums in the U.S.; had 16 Top 10 hits (including nine number one songs); won five Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Tony Award; and had a residency in Las Vegas, splitting time at Caesars Palace with Cher and Bette Midler. Elton John tickets have been something to truly behold.
Before he was a musical sensation and even before he took the name Elton John, he was Reginald Kenneth Dwight, born March 25, 1947. He lived in difficult times with his parents in his grandparents' place. He ignored his father's wish that he pursue a conventional career and began to his path to stardom. Elton had always been musically inclined and took the stage to release his outlandish wardrobe and escape a pretty strict up bringing. Before selling concert tickets or touring he was playing piano on the weekends at a pub near his childhood home.
His path took him to London where he played in various bands, such as Bluesology, was an errand boy for a music publishing company, and played solo gigs at a London hotel. Dwight, as a member of Bluesology, began appearing on concert tickets as an opening act for American acts over in the UK.
The big break came after answering an ad in the New Musical Express posted by the A&R manager for Liberty Records. Dwight put music to the lyrics of Bernie Taupin and suddenly a mutually beneficial relationship began. Dwight became Elton John (taken his name from Bluesology members Elton Dean and Long John Baldry). As Elton John and a writing partner of Taupin, Dwight would become one of the most commercially successful artists in the world, selling millions of albums and tickets.
His first album failed to make a mark in 1969, but his second album, the self-titled Elton John was released in 1970 and became his first gold record. The success of the album quickly led to another, Tumbleweed Connection. Elton had started releasing albums at a pace of nearly two a year. His most successful album to date was produced and released in this frenzy. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road went platinum seven times and was a hit in the UK and the U.S.
Elton John tickets were suddenly in great demand as the piano rocker seemed to have the pulse of the music world down pat. It was, in fact, his heavy touring schedule that accompanied his studio time that helped make his albums so successful. It was during these concerts that we began to see the performer we all know today. He was already short, a little on the chubby side, and beginning to go bald, but his dramatic sense of fashion and his vigor on stage more than overshadowed any of his seemingly physical deficiencies.

In 1976 Elton John was worn out. He had been either in the studio producing new material or selling concert tickets for tours non stop. He suddenly announced the intention to retire from performing and began to produce a single album a year instead of two. This also marked the first time Elton John tried to produce work without the lyrics of Taupin. The results were not good. Fans lashed out as did critics.
By 1979 he had returned to touring, but this time in smaller stages with Ray Cooper as an accompanying musician. He returned to the top of the charts when he reunited with Taupin later that year. The album 21 at 33 was released in 1980 and the new album began to restore his acclaim, as did Elton John tickets.
The 1980s were not a decade in which he returned whole heartedly to stardom, but he remained relevant, releasing occasional platinum albums. In 1989 he released Sleeping with the Past, which went platinum in the U.S. and triple platinum in the UK. Elton John tickets to tours and concerts sold as much as out of interest in the new albums as out respect for his past work.
The 1990s began with Elton John affected tremendously by the death of Ryan White, an Indiana teenager with AIDS. Thus, began Elton's time as an activist. He also dealt with his own problems with substance abuse and bulimia. Another interesting adventure in the decade was the exploration of the writing style of the John-Taupin team. Taupin wrote the lyrics by himself and gave them to John who would add the music.
Elton John began to expand his influence at this time as well. He wrote the music for the Lion Kin g animated film and Broadway show, winning a Tony Award. The next century found him collaborating with other artists, most notably with Billy Joel on the Face to Face Tour. Tickets to see the two piano rock sensations go over their catalog of hits were in great demand. Later in the first decade of the new century Elton John began a residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Most recently he and Billy Joel have re-embarked on the second Face to Face tour.
