‘El Paso’ is part of the American Southwest and a seat of the El Paso County of Texas in the USA. It is the sixth biggest city of Texas and 21st largest city in the USA. It is the 7th fastest growing and biggest city of the nation.

This city is situated on the banks of Rio Grande. It is home to the University of Texas. It houses the main US Army installation, Fort Bliss. The Spanish conquistadors developed the Río Bravo del Norte, El Paso del Norte in 1659 that is now famous as Ciudad Juárez. This city became a base for the Spanish governance of the territory of New Mexico after successful Pueblo Revolt of 1680.

The Spaniards led by Diego de Vargas grouped from El Paso to recolonize Spanish territory, which was centered in Santa Fe. It had stretched from Socorro to the areas including Taos. It was in 1825 that its first agricultural enterprise was granted in this region as Ponce de León Ranch. It is prominent southernmost locality of the Provincia de Nuevo Mexico. It is linked with the Santa Fe and Mexico City by Royal Road.

The 2006 census estimates that this city has 609,415 inhabitants, 182,063 households and 141,098 families. Its population density is 2,263.0 people per square mile. It has 193,663 housing units at an average density of 777.5/sq mi. Its racial makeup is 76.6% Whites, 3.12% African Americans, 0.82% Native Americans, 1.12% Asians, 0.10% Pacific Islanders, 18.15% from other races and 3.40% from two or more races. Its Hispanic race counts for 86.62% of the total population. The sex ratio of this city is 90.4 males for every 100 females. It has 85.0 males for every 100 females aged 18 and above.

El Paso operates under a council-manager form of government, which is a combination of strong political leadership of elected officials in the form of eight Council Members and strong managerial experience of a local government manager. Its elected council is very powerful that takes the services of professionally trained managers.
