The year 1961 was a promising year for the dynamic artist, as his independent band "La Perfecta" was launched the same year.

Just after formation of the band, a well known Jazz American musician Herbie Mann took notice. The band also performed well in 1966 collaboration with Cal Tjader, El Sonido Nuevo (Verve). But, unfortunately, the band broke up in 1968 due to heavy financial crisis. It was only in mid-60's that Palmieri started taking inspiration from the Monk which reflected in his piano work. He also experimented with varoius combinations of music such as Salsa with R&B, pop, rock, Spanish vocals and Jazz.
Palmieri was an active musician in the 1990's. He also recorded jazz-oriented Palmas in the year 1993 under the label of classical Nonsuch, and also released several albums for the RMM label.
