Dr. John
Malcolm John Rebennack Jr popularly known as Dr. John is one of the most revered singer, pianist and songwriter. In his music journey he explored various musical arenas such as rock and roll, blues, boogie woogie and many more. Dr. John was born on 21st November, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana and it was Professor Longhair who was the main guiding force behind him and his success. Since his childhood he was inclined towards music and started his musical journey in 1950's as a session musician in New Orleans. Initially he started playing guitar and was known as Mac Rebennack in the music circle. Then in order to break this monotony he simply changed his gears and moved onto bass. But soon he got bored of it and decided to play piano. In the beginning he faced some problems in playing piano as in an accident he nearly shot off his index finger while protecting his band mate, Jesuit High School classmate, and longtime friend Ronnie Barron. But with the god's grace he was safe and sustained some minor injuries.
John then finally kick start his music career in early 1970's. At that time his music contained a pinch of New Orleans-style rhythm and blues blended with psychedelic rock. This innovative type of music made him very famous instantly and he started doing various stage shows. The tickets to his show were hard to fetch and people always book their tickets in advance so that they can enjoy the show. Soon his unique dressing sense became talk of the town as he used to wear elaborated costumes and headdresses. Seeing this people stated calling him Doctor John, The Night Tripper. But in 19th century his name was swapped to Dr. John by a legendary Louisiana voodoo practitioner. It was in 1973 when he rocked the world with his soulful song "Right Place, Wrong Time". This song climbed to 9th spot in the Billboard Hot 100. Apart from that he has also given vocals for Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits that is "Luv dat chicken" jingle. Furthermore, he also gave the theme song "My Opinionation" for 1990's famous sitcom show Blossom. In his colorful career he also enacted in a documentary movie "The Last Waltz" and "Blues Brothers 2000".
