They played an unannounced "secret slot" in the afternoon on the second stage.
In Download Festival held in 2004, another stage was added, bringing the total to three. This year 72 bands played for over two days. This years festival was noticeable for several last minute hitches. Firstly Soil got lost on their way to Donington and missed their main stage performance on Saturday. Static-X missed their slot due to a bus breakdown. Sunday had another disaster waiting to happen, Slayer arrived on time but their equipment did not. Due to this the slot was altered from the middle of the afternoon on the main stage to a later slot on the second stage. The biggest news was still to break to through when the headliners Metallica announced that Lars Ulrich was hospitalized. Taking to the stage an hour and half late, James Hetfield explained the situation with Lars. The show began with Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. The set featured no -Black Album songs and carried out long for an hour and ten minutes. The set was recorded as the biggest and mist memorable Metallica performances. The Download Festival was also held for two days in Scotland. It was in the June of 2004, it was held on Glasgow Green, several day before the Donington event. It had constraint of only 9 bands performing over 2 day period. Bands which played were the similar one's to play at Donongton, it included the headliners Metallica and Linkin Park. What made Download Scotland unique was the performance by Welsh rock act Lostprophets who did not perform at Donington. Donington Park was again the platform for Download Festival 2005. This two festival this year was different from the previous two as the Saturday was dubbed Ozzfest 2005.
