Don Carlos began his career in singing with Black Uhuru, in 1973 with King Tubby, The Jays, Junior Reid and King Jammy the other members of the same group. He also sang with Garth Dennis and Derrick Simpson. He also played a major role for the recordings of notable album like Love Crisis that was produced in 1977 by Prince Jammy. In the same year this album was re-released as The Black Sounds of Freedom. By May 1981 he blossomed as a solo singer by releasing album Suffering for Negus Roots.
Don achieved his greatest success when he sang with Black Uhuru. With his two friends Rudolph Dennis and Derrick Duckie Simpson. The trio formed reggae in 1974. However he could record only one song with this group. And went on to form the band ‘Don Carlos and Gold'. After sixteen years he returned and joined Dennis and Simpson to revive their formation. Their first album, which released in 1990 helped Black Uhuru to achieve the same popularity they had in the 1970s and '80s. But he remained with the trio for a very short time and helped Dennis and Simpson with the recording of Iron Storm.
Gradually he became big favorite and continued to perform with Gold, who was also the backup vocalist and co-writer for him. The duo kept working together and Don released twelve solo albums. Some of his popular albums are: Harvest Time, Day to Day Living and Them Never Know a Natty Dread, which were released in 1982. Spread Out now known as Laser Beam that was released in 1982 has great fan followings.
Carlo's musical career was at its peak in the 80's and even after two decades he still remains a most sort after singer for many. In 1990 he re-united as the lead vocal for a Black Uhuru album. Don continues to grow in popularity and still performs all over the world. Even today he believes in his philosophy that everyone must respect the time.

Don Carlos's birth name is Euvin Spencer. He was born on June 29, 1952 in the Waterhouse district of Kingston, Jamaica, where he continues to live even today but his 13 children are now live in Jamaica, London, New York and California. In Waterhouse town during his youth everyone carried a gun and not even the Sunset Taxi could enter the Trench after 6 PM. Don was the one who could walk on the streets at any time in the nights.
In 1965 on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston at the Federal Studios, his first recording was done. The local DJ, Ken Williams introduced him to international music in 1983. With Ika Mouse and Chalice, Reggae artists he played to thousands for Hunters College in Manhattan, New York. After this performance his music tours took him to Africa, Europe, South America, the United States and many Islands in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and he continued to charm the listeners with his brilliant performances.
Don has often proclaimed that his music draws inspiration from his traveling and to improve his music he takes such long journeys around the globe. As a matter of fact the blend of many places and myriad cultures are vividly perceptible in his compositions. He also feels that while travelling he feels connected with the people of different cultures and believes. For him travelling has been a great teacher and a real motivation for his music.
