Formed in 1977, Dokken is an influential American metal band. The music of Dokken comprises the traditional metal sound which is defined by excessive use of lead guitars along with high melodic vocals backed by a massive thumping bass. Though the band has got a "Glam" image but music indicates traditionally heavy sound with technical expertise. Dokken was founded by Don Dokken on vocals, Mick Brown on drums, George Lynch on lead guitars & Jeff Pilson on bass. The present line up of band includes Don Dokken on vocals, Jon Levin on guitar, Barry Sparks on bass, and Mick Brown on drums.

The band was formed a joint with Peter Baltes as a temporary bassist for the recording of "Back in the Streets" with Carerre Records in 1970s. Peter Baltes was replaced with Juan Croucier as another temporary bassist in 1978. This lineup released the singles "Hard Rock Woman" and "Paris is Burning". Album "Breaking the Chains" was released by the band in 1981 in Europe. In 1983, it was released again by Elektra Records in the US. Though the band attained much popularity , it didn't climb the US charts yet. In 1982, Juan Croucier was replaced by Jeff Pilson, the first official bassist. The album " Tooth and Nail" released in 1984 proved to be a big breakthrough for the band. This album had many hits including "Just Got Lucky". This album contained band's first ever No. 1 hits "Alone Again" and "Into The Fire". The album climbed the US charts up to number 13. Another grand hit, "Under Lock and Key" was released in Nov 1985 containing songs "In My Dreams", "The Hunter" & "It's Not Love".

After performing successfully on a tour with the Scorpions, Dokken came back to the studio in December 1986 to record Dream Warriors. The album "Back for the Attack" was recorded by the band after a half year break. This album was released on November 27, 1987. Few fantastic songs like " Burning Like A Flame", " Heaven Sent" earned the band a huge popularity and made the album peak the US charts. Additionally, the album contained a remixed version of the single "Dream Warriors". The accompanying music video featuring the members with movie's actors proved to be the major hit of the band. Album "Back for the Attack" was credited to be third platinum status record for the band.

The band broke up in 1988 just after releasing "Beast from the East" resulted from japan tour. The band discontinued because of the disputes between Don and George. The band members pursued their solo career after the break up. Following a long hiatus of four years, the band reunited in 1993. After two years , the band released "Dysfunctional" with Columbia Records. In 1996, "One Live Night" was released by CMC followed by "Shadowlife" in 1997. Lynch left the band again in 1998 to continue with his own band Lynch Mob. He was replaced by Reb Beach of the band Winger. In the following years, "Erase the Slate" was released in 1999 and "Live from the Sun" in 2000. Beach left the band in 2001 and replaced by John Norum whereas Jeff Pilson was replaced by Barry Sparks on bass. In 2002, the band performed wonderfully in the Metal Edge Rockfest. In 2004, the band released "Hell to Pay" with Jon Levin on guitar when John Norum left the band.

The band is working on new songs although its latest album "The Definitive Rock Collection" has released recently in 2006.
