Dionne Warwick is an American singer born on 12th December 1940, in East Orange, New Jersey, as Marie Dionne Warrick. This American singer is known for her powerful and soothing voice along with her famous work with Hal David and Burt Bacharach as songwriters and producers. Born to Mansel Warrick and Lee Drinkard, Dionn Warrick began her singing career by gospel with her family. Soon, after graduating from the University of Hartford, she started taking her voice seriously and hunted the ways to promote her voice worldwide. Initially she started her singing career, by singing as a back stage vocals on records by Chuck Jackson, Dinah Washington and Solomon Burke, among others. Soon her solo career got kick started when she released her first album in 1962 titled Don't Make Me Over. This album was a smash hit and she became the singing sensation.

Soon, this success was followed up with another hit in 1964 titled Anyone Who Had a Heart. This album got into Warwick's first top 10 pop hit. Later this success was complemented with another hit Walk on By. All these albums were huge hit and launched her career into the stratosphere. Despite being popular in America she was also very famous in Canada and Britain. You'll be amazed to know that, majority of her albums were hit in UK too. And in late 1960s she released two back to back albums titled "Walk On By" and "Do You Know The Way To San Jose?". It was in 1970 when her music career went down as there were no big hits until 1974's Then Came You. This album was a duet with the Spinners and produced by Thom Bell. This album became her first US #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

After this success she moved onto new label and released I'll Never Love This Way Again" produced by Barry Manilow. This accompanied album went onto become platinum and also marked debut on Arista Records to which she had been personally signed and guided by the label's founder Clive Davis. It was in 1982 when she released her full-length collaboration with Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees for Heartbraker. Also in 2005, she was honored by Oprah Winfrey at her Legends Ball. She got the major audience recognition when she appeared on fifth-season finale of American Idol on 24th May 2006. As there almost 36 million U.S. viewers watched Warwick sing a medley of "Walk on By" and "That's What Friends Are For," with longtime collaborator Burt Bacharach accompanying her on the piano.
