Digital Underground, a band that has its origin in Oakland is best known for their funky music . The kind of music played by the band, depicted weird sense of humor and style. Although the band featured many popular tracks during their career, Shock-G remained at their core. Digital Underground released their Debut album ' Sex Packets' in the year 1990 which was a huge hit. Gregory E. Jacobs or Shock-G, was born on August 25, 1963. His childhood days were spent in the East Coast, when eventually they settle down in the Bay Area of California. Before going to the college, the artist led a life of a criminal. He didn't do well at the school and so dropped out from his studies. Shock-G studied music during his college days and formed his own band 'Digital Underground' with Chopmaster in the year 1987. The number one hit song 'Underwater Rimes' made the popular across Netherlands. A record deal was signed in 1989 with Tommy Boy, and the group came out with yet another hit single 'Doowutchyalike' the same year.

The consecutive year marked the release of their debut album 'Sex Packets' which was rapped by Shock -G's alter ego Humpty Hump which came up to number 11 on the music charts. This album went platinum at the end of the year making Underground Digit as one of the greatest hip-hop bands. The band's EP release in the early 1991, featuring rapper Tupac Shakur also went gold. With the gaining popularity the band came up with their second album 'Sons of the P' which was stunning hit of that year. Though the album was criticized for its similarity to their first album, their single 'Kiss You Back' went gold.
But unfortunately the mid 90's period was taken over by gangsta rap, the G-funk of Dr. Dre. Consequently, the Digital Underground could not sustain their existence with their third release 'The Body Hat Syndrome' in 1993. However, the band made a come back with yet another smashing hit 'Future rhythm' three years after the release of their third album, followed by 'Who Got The Gravy' in 1998.
