Dianne Reeves was born on 23 October 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. She is a renowned American jazz singer who is very much known for her live performances rather than her albums. She is considered to be one of the most significant female Jazz singers of her time with her peers Dee Dee Bridgewater, Diana Krall and Cassandra Wilson along her side. Her residence is in Denver, Colorado.

She was born and brought up in a musical family. Her father was also a singer but unfortunately, he passed away when she was just two. Her mother, Vada Swanson, is a well known personality for playing trumpet. Her cousin, George Duke also hails from musical background and is a well known for playing piano, keyboard. He is also a producer.

Dianne and her sister Sharon, both were brought up, by their grandmother in Denver, Colorado. When she was a child, she started taking up piano lessons and exploited her singing talent whenever given an opportunity. Some of the credit of making her big in musical world goes to her teacher who taught her some very good lessons when she was 11. She grew her interest in the music who thought that music was the only best way to bring all the students together. At this particular juncture, Dianne discovered a love of music and she knew that she wanted to be a singer.

Her uncle Charles Burell who happened to be a bass player played the role of a mentor and introduced her to the music of jazz singers right from Ella Fitzgerald to Billie Holiday. Through this introduction period of hers, she was very much impressed by Sarah Vaughan.
