Dengue Fever is a USA band comprising six members. The band originated in Los Angeles. The music of the band is highly influenced from Cambodian pop music and psychedelic rock. The lyrics and sound of band gives a familiar pop but unique sensation. Dengue Fever was founded by Ethan Holtzman and his brother Zac in 2001. Ethan got the inspiration to form this band by a trip to Cambodia. Dengue fever is not like the bands of the late 80s as it believes in a unique and lasting musical impression rather than typical authentic music. The music is influenced from American R&B, Cambodian folk, Bollywood soundtracks, Ethiopian soul,, Spaghetti Western weirdness and girl group angst in the mix, but the outcome of mixture reveals a hallmark of the band's own sound.
Chhom Nimol, a Combodian pop star who is lead singer in the band with a magical voice. Ethan and Zac found this girl when she was performing at a night club in the Little Phnom Penh area of Long Beach. They were looking for a singer/ vocalist for their band to perform in Khmer. In addition to, this Combodian pop star and vocalist Chhom Nimol, the band includes Farfisa organist Ethan Holtzman, his guitarist brother Zac, David Ralicke on Saxophone, bassist Senon William along with drummer Paul Smith. The imaginative sound of band made its space in audience' heart from their very first performance. Chhom's extraordinary high shimmering vibrato, her wonderful stage moves and amazing skills of the band members made Dengue Fever win the LA Weeklys Best New Artist Award in 2002.Aactor and director Matt Dillon tapped the band to provide a Cambodian version of Joni Mitchells "Both Sides Now" for his Cambodian based thriller movie "City of Ghosts".

Dengue Fever released its debut self-titled album in 2003. this album was containing Cambodian rock covers of 1960s though few songs were original too. Out of two originals, "22 Nights" was inspired by Nimols arrest in 2002 on an expired visa infraction that made her to experience jail for 22 nights. Another song "Connect Four" was a tale of the board games played by ladies in Cambodian cafes and shops as time slips between their fingers. The song reveals the direction to which the band is moving. All the songs were recorded in Khmer. The originals of the album were earlier written in English by the Holtzmans before being translated.
