Death Cab for Cutie had its start as a solo project. Ben Gibbard had taken a chance and recorded and released You Can Play These Songs with Chords. It became a surprising success, inspiring Gibbard to recruit guitarist Chris Walla, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Nathan Good. The first recording as a group was the LP Something About Airplanes. This LP established the band as an indie sensation, back when indie was called independent. In 2000, Death Cab for Cutie released its first studio album, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes.
It took two more albums, but the group had its first taste of success with Transatlanticism in 2003. The album featured the singles "The New Year" and "The Sound of Settling". Death Cab for Cutie went Gold and set up the release of Death Cabs first platinum album, Plans. The album reached number four on the Billboard 200 thanks in part to songs like "I Will Follow You into the Dark".
Death Cab for Cutie continued its string of successes with Narrow Stairs, a gold-certified album. The album proved that this would not be an indie band about to lose its luster after enjoying some measure of success. A success, continued with Codes and Keys, an album kicked off by the release of the single "You Are a Tourist". OnlineSeats has the Death Cab for Cutie tickets to see these guys live.
