Dead Confederate
The Dead Confederate is the South's answer to Nirvana. Handy Morris (lead singer, guitarist), Brantley Senn (bassist), Walker Howle (lead guitarist), John Watkins (keyboardist), and Jason Scarboro (drummer) grew up together in Augusta, Georgia and bonded over shared musical tastes in Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. The quintet played together as a rather loose unit through their college years, but decided to make a serious run after facing the possibility of trying to find more conventional careers and moved to Atlanta. It was with the second move to modern music hub Athens, Georgia that the group sold out local shows with Dead Confederate tickets and began to get the attention of music labels.
Their brand of Country Alternative is dark, stripped down, and moody. The group found this sound after years of playing the stage to no avail and retreating to the workshop again in 2006. Morris and Brantley wrote from the heart sharing personal tragedy and finally found the willing helpful hands of Scott Register. Register used his connections to pass the Dead Confederates demo to the Artists Organization founder Gary Gersh. Gersh heard a familiar sound in their music. He had signed Nirvana and Sonic Youth in Seattle and was excited to work them.

 The eponymous EP turned into the Wrecking Ball with the help of producer Mike McCarthy. Dead Confederate hit the stores with a 10-song album with tight songs that effortlessly went from meandering jams to sincere edgy choruses and Southern-rock guitar wails.
