David Bazan is an indie rock singer as well as songwriter from Edmonds, Washington. Bazan was the lead singer and creative force behind the now-defunct band Pedro the Lion and presentlt performing with the band Headphones as a lead singer. This band was his formation as a result of his love for synthesizers. Simultaneously he also performs with the band The Soft Drugs, a band fronted by former Pedro the Lion drummer T.W. Walsh. In the early 90's he played drums in the band The Guilty with Damien Jurado.

Bazan had been known to play live in bands that open for Pedro the Lion. For example, in 2002, he played drums and sang backup vocals for Seldom; in 2004, he played with Starflyer 59. Bazan has made various studio appearances with Seattle-based bands, including drumming in 1998 for Unwed Sailor's Firecracker

Bazan got his first big break to record his first solo project, the EP Fewer Moving Parts, while he was on tour as a member of The Undertow Orchestra.

It was while he was performing as the member of Pedro the Lion, when Bazan suddenly became mostly know for his tenure atr. David Bazan recently retired the band moniker to continue making music under his own name and his electronic side project, Headphones. His solo debut EP "Fewer Moving Parts" finds the beloved Seattle songwriter roaring back to his creative roots, performing and recording everything himself in his home studio, while still expanding his sonic canvas. His signature songwriting, voice, and melodies are framed in layered harmonies, multi-tracked guitars, analog keyboards, and intricate production he was never able to fully realize with Pedro The Lion. Among the 10 songs of the EP are also two different versions of five new Bazan songs. One version is stripped down acoustic and another version has full-instrumentation. Acclaimed graphic novelist, Zak Sally created new original artwork for the EP. "Fewer Moving Parts" is hands-down Bazan's finest work to date. As the year unfolds Bazan will huddle up in his Seattle studio to begin work on his Jade Tree full length, due tentatively to be released in 2007

Headphones was formed as aside project of Bazan shortly following the dissolution of Pedro the Lion. The band's sound is marked by the use of synthesizers and live drums, often drawing comparisons to other indie rock electronic groups such as The Postal Service. The band distances themselves from this somewhat, as it was considered more of a change of scenery for Bazan given the perception that Pedro the Lion gave off. Bazan was quoted as saying he had no interest in doing 1980s music or dance pop, much like many indie acts such as the Postal Service have attempted, instead aiming for the synthesizer and drums setup.

The band is also unique to Bazan in terms of the lyrical writing style. Bazan, a devout Christian, often had religious overtones in his work with Pedro the Lion, but Headphones is considered a more secular band in comparison.

The band has toured extensively in support of their debut album, Headphones, which received positive critical reception. Although Bazan is also undertaking solo activities, a second Headphones album is set to be issued late in 2006. He is currently on a solo tour in support of the record, released 13 June 2006. A full length album is in the works for 2007.
