Dave Matthews Band Tickets

Four years ago Dave Matthews Band lost one its founding members to complications arising from a freak accident while they were busy recording a new album. This proved a sad time, but also gave fans a chance to look back and reflect on the incredible work recorded during the LeRoi Moore years. No other rock band in the 1990s was able to effectively use a saxophone solo, but DMB fans run out of fingers noting the tracks featuring this big brass sound. Today, after the group recovered and embarked on a 20th anniversary concert tour with a caravan, Dave Matthews Band tickets have at last witnessed a group back to normal.

Dave Matthews still inspires with lingering notes, not so subtly begging for someone to Crash into Me and for someone else to take her place as a “Satellite”. Somehow the founding members, Matthews, drummer Carter Beauford, and bassist Stefan Lessard have managed to keep the spirit of the music alive. Each song, every bridge, and each note lazily hang in air, keeping the soundscape full of phenomenal music that could only be achieved by a group with a folksy singer and a complement of jazz musicians. Violinist Boyd Tinsley, trumpet player Rashawn Ross, and the occasional electric guitar force of Tim Reynolds round out the players on the stage, a group that has grown in numbers as the arenas they play have only increased the seating occupancy.

DMB keeps true to its strength. This means the hits will be played, but the live version is its own creation. It is a song with a basic structure composed so the musicians can each have their time in the spotlight. This is true jazz in the music genre merging era known as the 21st century.

Those Dave Matthews Band concert tickets bring the jazz-rock fusion to the cities across the globe every summer, though sometimes the group will treat its audience with a winter concert series. Watch for news of these tours, both the annual and the rare, and enjoy a musical treat.

DMB History

DMB, like many a band before them, began in a bar. Dave Matthews, the group's namesake, worked as a bartender in Charlottesville, Virginia at Miller Bar. A regular insisted he record a demo album, recommending a few musicians he happened to know. Matthews had been reluctant to do so because, despite being an avid songwriter, he had reservations about performing before actual people. Thus, Dave Matthews Band began as a simple jam band in a bar playing a few songs written by the bartender in 1990.

The first few musicians to join the group included drummer Carter Beauford, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, and jazz trumpeter John D'earth. The group eventually grew, settling on a lineup including Dave Matthews, LeRoi Moore, Carter Beauford, Stefan Leesard, and Boyd Tinsley. DMB began touring the local music venues in 1991, their first being the Earth Day Festival.

Dave Matthews Band actually found their name because of this show. When registering for the festival, Dave Matthews simply gave his name in lieu of an actual band name. The organizer then decided to put them down as the Dave Matthews Band. The group killed, planning gigs throughout the area at local music venues and frat parties at the local universities. Dave Matthews Band kept plugging away at concert dates, but had yet to put out an EP and sell concert tickets.

In 1993 the band finally released its debut album, Remember Two Things. The independent album became a hit on college radio stations, eventually leading to a rare platinum certification for an independent release, though it finally reached that mark nearly nine years later. Dave Matthews Band signed RCA and almost immediately released its first major studio album, Under the Table and Dreaming. The singles "What Would You Say," "Satellite," and "Ants Marching" captured the public's attention and helped the album sell millions, eventually being certified platinum six times.

DMB tickets sold very well for that first promotional tour, beginning the group's long history of summer tours. The second and third album, Crash (1996) and Before These Crowded Streets (1998) gave the band two more multi-platinum albums. Before These Crowded Streets became Dave Matthews Band's first number one album, four more would follow.

The 21st century has been less kind to the Dave Matthews Band, at least in terms of album sales. After dominated the charts, the album sales list, and the annual concert revenue lists, the four studio albums have started a pattern of dwindling album sales. This is not to the ire of the group though. DMB made enough money for all its band members in the 1990s, so the group began to distribute free music in the new century. The albums still topped the charts and the summer tours still sold out regularly.

The band also recognized the stress created by constantly creating and working together, setting aside time for band members to pursue their own projects without leading to the demise of the group. One band member did depart though. In 2008, Saxophonist LeRoi Moore perished after an ATV accident while the group recorded Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Saddened, the band canceled the remainder the 2008 summer tour.

The group rebounded emotionally and musically, but they still mourn the loss of a good friend. Dave Matthews Band remains an active touring act, selling concert tickets just about every summer. They also consistently give back to the communities they travel through.
