Brian Burton, born July 29, 1977, grew up in Spring Valley, New York and attended the University of Georgia in Athens. In Athens he began exploring trip-hop, remixing tracks for local musicians, and working as a DJ for the college radio station. He also cultivated the music persona Danger Mouse, a name inspired by the British cartoon series, which allowed him to wear a mouse costume to avoid showing his face on stage. The name, costume choice, and his future endeavors all make sense hindsight, as trip-hop was the combination of electronica and hip hop, a cutting edge musical style at the time evolving in the UK.

Danger Mouse tickets were first official concert tickets to see a talent show winner opening for OutKast and Goodie Mob. This is concert proved a pivotal moment in his career. Here Danger Mouse gave Goodie Mob singer Cee Lo Green his mix tape, marking the beginning of the formation of the genre breaking group Gnarls Barkley.
